210 left in fray in Haryana

A total of 210 candidates are left in fray in Haryana, after withdrawal by 30 candidates today, to contest Lok Sabha elections from 10 constituencies in the State. When the nomination papers were securitinised on Monday last, 240 candidates were left in the fray in the State.
The contesting candidates include14 women with a maximum of three from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh, two each from Karnal,Gurgaon and Faridabad. Each of the five constituencies of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Hisar and Sonepat have one female candidate in the fray.
The State had witnessed a highest number of 324 contesting candidates in General Elections of 1989 followed by 294 in 1996 and 200 in 1984. The number of such candidates was 198 in 1991, 160 in 2004,140 in 1998 and 137 in 1980. There were 114 contesting candidates in 1999, 67 in 1967 and merely 63 in 1971.
With Haryana becoming a separate political entity of the Indian Union in 1966, the State had witnessed it’s first Lok Sabha Elections in 1967. At that time Haryana had a total of nine Parliamentary Constituencies with two of them reserved constituencies. Although the State had a total of nine Parliamentary Constituencies during the General Elections of 1971, it had one reserved constituency. It was in the year 1977 that General Elections in Haryana were contested for 10 Parliamentary Constituencies including two reserved and since then this number has not changed.
There were a maximum of 1,23,20,557 voters including 56,59,926 women in Haryana during the General Elections of 2004. As compared to it, there were a minimum of 43,86,711 voters, including 20,57,182 women in Haryana during Lok Sabha Elections in 1967. In the 2009 Lok Sabha Election Total Number of voters would be 12063257 including 6578272 Men and 5484985 Women electoral.
The seven candidates who are now in fray from Ambala Parliamentary Constituency included Km. Selja of Indian National Congress, Mr Chander Pal of BSP, Mr Rattan Lal of BJP, Mr Dalvir Singh of Haryana Janhit Congress(BL), Mr Hem Raj of Lok Jan Shakti Party and independents including Mr Amar Singh and Mr Narender Kumar.
In Kurukshetra Parliamentary Constituency, now 14 candidates are in fray. They included Mr Gurdayal Singh of BSP, Mr Naveen Jindal of INC, Mr Jaswant Singh of HJC(BL), Mr Ashok Kumar Arora of INLD, Mr Pardhan of Samajwadi Party and independents included Mr Vishnu Bhagwan, Mr Subhash Mahendra, Mr Atam Parkash, Mr Virender Singh, Mr Yash Pal, Ms Suneeta Dhariwal, Mr Ashwani, Mr Ran Singh and Mr Tarsem Lal.
Twentyfour candidates who are in fray from Gurgaon Parliamentary Constituency included Mr Inderjit Singh of INC, Mr Sunil Yadav of Samajwadi Party, Mr Narvir Singh of HJC(BL), Ms Sudha of BJP, Mr Zakir Husain of BSP, Mr Dinesh Chander Yadav of Nationalist Congress Party, Mr Yash Pal of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Mr Ishpal Singh Tomar of Rashtriya Dehat Morcha Party and independents included Mr Kusheswar Bhagat, Ms Bimla Devi, Mr Budh Ram, Mr Satish Kumar Singh, Mr Balwant Singh Aggarwal, Mr Prabhu Lal Batra, Mr Satender Singh Thakran, Mr Manbir Singh, Mr Amar Mohammad, Mr Nazir Ahmad, Mr Naveen, Mr Jagan, Mr Satbeer Singh Kundu, Mr Dinesh Chander Yadav, Mr Rakesh and Mr Naresh Yadav.

MDU BE/B Tech results declared

Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak has declared the results of B.E./B.Tech. (I to VIII semester) semester examinations held during December’08/January’09.
MDU controller of Examinations (CoE) K.C. Dadhwal informed that results were declared on April 4. He further informed that the results are available on the varsity web-site www.mdurohtak.com.
Meanwhile, the next semester examinations of B.E./B.Tech. will commence on May 14.
