OSP Bureau invites applications

Chandigarh, June 16

Haryana Overseas Placement Bureau has invited application from the desirous students for three courses in Hotel Management from the School of Hospitality and Resort Management, Singapore.
A spokesman of the Bureau said here today that interested candidates would register themselves at the Panchkula campus of School of Hospitality and Resort Management before June 20, 2009.
He said that the courses offered by School of Hospitality and Resort Management, Singapore included Diploma in Hospitality Management, Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management and Bachelors Degree from United Kingdom and United States of America.
The enrolled students would study first year and second year in India and would be transferred to Singapore, Ireland or USA for degree. The candidates who had passed Matriculation and Senior Secondary examination were eligible for the admission in these courses. Entrance test would be conducted on July 5 and the candidates who would register before June 20, 2009 would be exempted from the entrance test for the admission to these courses.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, has re-accredited Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar as ‘A’ grade University. Grade ‘A’ is the highest level of academic accomplishment under the new assessment and accreditation system of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council said Lt. Gen. Dr. Devinder Dayal Singh Sandhu, PVSM, (Retd.), Vice-Chancellor, here today. University got 3.26 CGPA in the re-accreditation.
“Assessment was done on quality basis. Grade ‘A’ shows relevance and excellence of academic programmers offered to the students and it would stimulate the academic environment for promotion of quality of teaching-learning and research in the University” said Dr DDS Sandhu.
“Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar is one among 26 ‘A’ grade universities in the country under the new assessment and accreditation system of National Assessment and Accreditation Council which came into force from 1 April, 2007” said Dr DDS Sandhu.
NAAC team made assessment of the university on Curricular Aspects, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, Research, Consultancy and Extension, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, Governance & Leadership and Innovative Practices , said Dr. DDS Sandhu.
An eight-member peer team headed by Prof R Natarajan, former chairman, AICTE, visited the oniversity from April 22 to 24, 2009. Prof N Jayasankaran, Director General, Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Dr. Latha Pillai, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, New Delhi, Prof. D.T. Khathing, Vice-Chancellor, Jharkhand Central University, Ranchi , Prof. Anand Mohan, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Prof. K.S. Rangappa, University of Mysore, Mysore and Col. Ramesh B. Kasetwar, Dean, Bhartiya Vidyapeeth University, New Delhi, were other members of the team.
Dr DDS Sandhu and Prof R S Jaglan, Registrar congratulated the faculty, non teaching staff and students of the university.

Lt Gen (Dr) Devender Dayal Singh Sandhu, PVSM (Retd.) Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar (Haryana) was conferred ‘Best Education Award 2008’ by former Madhya Pradesh Governor Dr. Bhai Mahavir in a function at Delhi organized by Health and Education Development Association, New Delhi. Also present on the occasion were Mr G.V.K. Krishna Murthy, former Chief Election Commissioner, sitting and former Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, intellectuals from Education and other fields of society, etc.
Dr. Sandhu, a resident of Karnal, was recently conferred ‘Haryana Ratan’. Before joining as Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar about a year back, he had served the Indian Army for 40 years in different capacities. The last assignment held by him was the Director General, Ordnance Services. He is a successful educational administrator, an excellent teacher, an eminent strategician cum logistician and an accomplished and adaptable management visionary. Dr. Sandhu has also been Principal of College of Material Management, Jabalpur which has been awarded a 5 Star Accreditation by NAAC and short listed by UGC for ‘potential for excellence’.
Lt. Gen. Sandhu has the unique distinction of having been awarded a D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) by Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, being the first Army Officer to have been so awarded. Lt. Gen. Sandhu did his Ph.D. (Defence and Management) from Panjabi University, Patiala, MBA (Materials) and MMM (Materials) from Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur. He has also passed MDBA (IIMM, Pune) M. Phil (Defence & Management) from Devi Ahalyabai University, Indore and M.Sc. (Defence Studies) from Madras University.
Dr. Sandhu is a Patron of Asian Council of Logistic Management, a member of Board of Studies of Indian Institute of Materials Management, a fellow of British Institute of Management and an Honorary Fellow of Indian Institute of Materials Management. He has been awarded PVSM (Highest Award for Defence Services) and held the appointment of Honorary ADC to the President of India. He has also qualified an independent Directors course of ASSOCHEM.

Admission to professional courses MDU begin

The admission process to various professional courses in Maharshi Dayanand Universtiy (MDU), Rohtak for the academic session 2009-2010 has commenced. However, the admission to B.Pharmacy, B.E./B.Tech. and MCA courses will be conducted through
Haryana State Counseling Society(HSCS), Panchkula.
A spokesperson of the University said that H.S.C.S. has already
notified the admission schedule for the session 2009-2010. Aspirants
seeking admission to B. Pharmacy, B.E/B.Tech. and MCA course of MDU
must get themselves registered online. Details of admission procedure
and online registration are available on website- www.hscs.org and
techeduhry.nic.in. Notably, no separate admission notice(s) will be
issued by Maharshi Dayanand University for these courses, the
spokesperson added.
It is mention worthy that B.Pharmacy course is available in the Dept.
of Pharmaceutical Sciences, B.E./B.Tech. in University Institute of
Engineering and Technology and MCA course is available in the Dept. of
Computer Science and Applications of Maharshi Dayanad University(MDU),
he added. He said that meanwhile, MDU has issued admission notice for
various PG courses-MA/M.Sc./M.Com. separately and the admission
deadline for these PG courses is June 16.

UGC recognises Devi Lal Memorial Engineering College

Chaudhary Devi Lal Memorial Engineering College, Panniwala Mota in district Sirsa has created history by getting recognition of University Grants Commission. It is the This was disclosed by Director-cum-Principal of the College Dr. D.S.Mor in Sirsa today.
He said that the UGC has included this college in the list of colleges prepared under Section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 thus paving the way for grant of funds to the college by the commission. He said that the inclusion of the name of the college under the Act has enabled the institution to receive central
assistance.
Dr Mor said that keeping in view the availability of the adequate facilities for higher education in the college, the commission has issued a letter to this effect on June 2, 2009. Now the college has become eligible for receiving Central assistance from the UGC and all
central government organizations. The studens and faculty members of the college can now apply under schemes like special assistance programmes, major and minor projects awards fellowships and travel grant. In addition to this, the college would get assistance from the commission for holding seminars, symposiums and conferences, he added.
He said that the college has done commendable job in the field of technical education. M-tech courses in different subjects would be introduced very soon. He added that College is situated 25 kilometers away from Sirsa on NH-10 and affiliated to Chaudhary Devi Lal University Sirsa . He congratulate the students and faculty members and non Teaching staff for this achievement.
