Haryana to open vegetable stores in Delhi

CHANDIGARH, DEC 20
Haryana Fresh’ stores are set to make a debut on the markert. The Agriculture Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar, wants vegetable stores named ‘Haryana Fresh’ opened in every part of Delhi to ensure that the farmers get better value for their produce. The farmers would have ownership rights in these stores and the state government would take care of the brand.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the fourth two-day Vegetable Fair organized at the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Gharaunda in Karnal today, he directed the Director, Agriculture, to introduce the brand ‘Haryana Fresh’. Vegetables come to Delhi from various states, including Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. The farmers of these states have been earning more profit as compared to those of
Haryana which is close to Delhi, and its farmers should not lag behind.
Mr Dhankar said that there was no shortage of urea and the state had sufficient quanitity. The farmers should not purchase urea in December which is required in January as it causes panic. They should not stock up urea which would be supplied in adequate quantity to meet their needs.
Three lakh bags of urea arrive in the state every day. There is enough urea in the state to ensure that every acre gets three bags against the requirement of two-and-a-half bags. He directed the officers to take action against those dealers who give medicine along with manure.
The two-day Vegetable Fair was visited by about 8,000 farmers who gathered important information related to horticulture. Also, 2,261 farmers got themselves registered for the vegetable exhibition.
Vegetables, including tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower and cabbage, brinjal, capsicum, colorful capsicum, varities of cucumber, varieties of potatoes and carrots were displayed at the exhibition.
The minister honoured 55 farmers who bagged the first and second position. Cash prize of Rs 5,100 and Rs 2,100 were given to those who bagged first and second position respectively, alongwith certificate and shield.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Mr. Dhanpat Singh, said that there were about 1,000 poly houses in the state and the aim is to set up at least 1,000 poly houses in every district.
