CHANDIGARH, OCT 1 Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal today gave an assurance to the people of Haryana to set up a campus of National Sports University, Coimbatore at Rohtak.
Mr Sibal, who was addressing the people after laying the foundation stone of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at village Garnawathi of district Rohtak, said that Haryana had set up new records in every field of development during the last over five years. The State was poised for becoming the centre of education and Rohtak would be the next satellite city of Delhi, he added.
Praising the leadership of Haryana, Mr Sibal said that the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda was all set for ensuring all-round development of the State and that was why the State had reached new pinnacles of development.
Expressing his concern over the brain drain, he said that today alumni of our reputed institutes of Management managed multinational companies in foreign countries. The trend would have to be reversed. Our talented graduates should manage the economy of our country, he added.
Terming education as the base of development, Mr Sibal said that the main difference between our country and the developed countries was that of education. The percentage of students going to colleges from schools was 40 to 50 in developed countries as compared to 12.4 per cent in our country. The Central Government has decided to increase this rate upto 30 per cent by the year 2020.
He said, "Today, 20 crore children go to school in our country, which stood at two-third of the total population of America and out of these school children, only 1.4 crore go to colleges for higher study, which is a big challenge for us."
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the IIM would prove a milestone in the development of the State. The Central Government decided to set up seven new institutes of management in the country. Of them, the foundation stone of the first institute had been laid in village Garnawathi. The classes of this institute with 50 seats had already been started temporarily at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Today, the country was emerging as a big economic power and institutes of management were the need of the hour to remain in the race of economic development, he added.
Mr Hooda said that Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru, Mrs Indira Gandhi and Mr Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation of science and technology in the country and the country under the able guidance of UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh was setting up new horizons of development.
Crediting Mr Sibal for qualitative improvement in the education system in the country, the Chief Minister said that Mr Sibal had given new directions to the education system by bringing about drastic changes in the education system introduced by the Britishers. Haryana was going to be an educational hub not only of country, but also of the world. The first defence university of the country was being set up at Gurgaon and central university at Mahendragarh and Lala Lajpat Rai Veterinary Science University at Hisar. The first women university of the Northern India had been set up at Khanpur Kalan in district Sonipat in the name of Bhagat Phool Singh.
Terming the laying of foundation of IIM at village Garnawathi as an historic moment, Mr Deepender Hooda, MP from Rohtak said that we nurtured a big dream which was going to be realised today. With the realising of this big dream we would muster courage to nurture rather bigger dreams in future. He expressed his gratitude to the Union Human Resource Minister for this project.
Mr Ravi Kant, Chairman of Board of Governors of IIM and Mr Devi Singh, Director, IIM, Lucknow also addressed the people.
