Bye-elections schedule for Jind Assembly Constituency announced

CHANDIGARH, JAN 3 
The Election Commission of India has issued the schedule for bye-elections to fill casual vacancies in Jind Assembly Constituency of Haryana. The poll will be held on January 28, 2019.
        As per the schedule, the last date of nominations is January 10, scrutiny of nominations will be held on January 11, January 14 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidatures and counting of votes will be held on January 31. The election process would be completed before February 2, 2019.
        The Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
        In consonance with the past practice, the Commission has decided that the voter’s identification would be mandatory in the bye-election at the time of poll. Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) would be the main document of identification of a voter. However, in order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his or her franchise, if his or her name figures in the Electoral Rolls, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters at the time of poll in the bye-election.
        The Model Code of Conduct would come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or any part of the Assembly Constituency going for bye-election is included. The Model Code of Conduct would be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Government concerned. The Model Code of Conduct would also be applicable to the Union Government for the district of the State concerned.

SATISH BHATIA: Haryana State Election Commission has notified the name of Mr. Satish Bhatia as vice-chairman, Panchayat Samiti Karnal to serve the remaining term of his predecessor.
        While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Commission said that Mr. Bhatia has been elected in the election held on November 29, 2018. A notification has been issued by the Commission, he added.
NON-OFFICIAL MEMBERS: Haryana Government has nominated Mr. Rajesh Gupta and Mr. Yogesh Bugra, residents of Karnal as non-official members of the District Grievances Redressal Committee, Karnal, with immediate effect.
        While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that a notification in this regard has been issued by the Grievances Department.
