Sumit goes down fighting in ATP 250 Sardegna Open

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 6  

Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal, ranked 136th, made his exit after losing to another qualifier and 128th ranked Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia in the first round of the  € 408,800 ATP 250 Sardegna Open Tennis Tournament in Cagliari, Italy.
In the 127-minute battle, down by a set, Jozef Kovalik rallied to post a well-merited victory by 3-6 6-1 6-3.  Sumit earned  €5,275.
Sumit Nagal committed six double faults in comparison to three by Jozef Kovalik.
Jozef Kovalik won 54 per cent of total points (91/168) and Sumit won 46 per cent of total points (77/168). Sumit converted 25 break points (3/12) while Jozef Kovalik converted 28 per cent break points (5/18). The Indian player from Haryana saved 13 of 18  (72) per  break points.  Jozef Kovalik  saved 9 out of 12 (75 per cent) of break points.
Had Sumit  took advantage of two break points as his rival trailed 15-40 on his serve,  things could have been different. However Jozef Kovalik saved break points in the ninth game of the third and final set. Kovalik won the game set and match.
