CHANDIGARH, November 1 The Empowered Committee of Union Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, has sanctioned 67 road projects involving a sum of Rs 372 crore under Bharat Nirman Scheme inthe State and all these roads would be completed by the December end next year.
While stating this here today, Haryana PWD B&R Minister, Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav said that about 700 km. roads would be widened and strengthened under the project besides one new road would be constructed to connect village Dabkoli Khurd in Karnal district. He said that under the projects most of the districts would get the benefit.
Capt. Yadav said that he had recently met Union Minister for Rural Development, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and urged him for early sanctioning of road projects. He expressed the gratitude of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda for taking keen interest in sanctioning these schemes.
He further said that Haryana was the only State in the country which had achieved more than 70 per cent target of the Bharat Nirman project. Quality control measures were being taken on all these roads to ensure good quality works, he added.
The Minister said that the clearance of the road schemes was a Haryana Day gift for the people of the state on the Haryana Day as a number of roads would get festival look. While enamurating the details of the scheme, he said that maintenance for five years after upgradation would also be packaged alongwith construction and this would cost another Rs. 18 crore.
He said that to insulate the contractors from the volatile prices of bitumen, the contracts for these roads would include clauses to compensate for the price rise or fall of bitumen. He said that government of Haryana would bear the cost of the price escalation for the bitumen.
