Keen on giving immediate relief to the farmers whose Rabi crops were damaged due to the unseasonal rain and hailstorms in various parts of the state, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal announced today to waive off their electricity bills, reschedule payment of crop loans to cooperative banks, and provide loan for the next crop at zero per cent interest rate.
Disclosing this in the Vidhan Sabha today, the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, said that he had sent a communication to the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, seeking immediate interim relief of Rs 500 crore to provide timely and complete assistance to the affected farmers.
Briefing the members of the House on a number of important decisions taken in the interest of the farmers, the Chief Minister said that the government had decided to provide the next crop loan to the farmers at zero per cent interest rate.
He said that up to 100 per cent rebate in agriculture electricity bills would be given to those farmers whose crops had been affected by the hailstorms and untimely rain. Fifty per cent of the electricity bills for the previous six months and for the next six months would be waived off in case of those farmers whose crops were damaged to the extent of 25 to 50 per cent. Similarly, 100 per cent electricity bills would be waived off in case of those farmers whose crops were damaged to the extent of more than 50 per cent.
Mr. Manohar Lal said that the government had also decided to reschedule the payment of loans under which crop loans would be converted into medium-term loans for a period of three years. The work on special girdawari is in full swing and would be completed by March 31, 2015.
He also informed the House that the Prime Minister, Mr.Narendra Modi, had announced at the ‘Shahidi Diwas’ at Hussainiwala (Punjab) yesterday to give a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 to the farmers after they attained 60 years of age. The decision was welcomed by all present in the House.
