The Union Government deciding to set up a Central University in the village of Jant-Pali in Mahendergarh District of Haryana. Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will lay the foundation stone of the Central University at 4 p.m on February 25. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will preside over the function.
A spokesman of Higher Education said that the Haryana Government has agreed to provide 500 acres of land free of cost in the village of Jant-Pali in Mahendergarh District for setting up Central University. The decision to pick the site in
Mahendergarh was taken in view of the fact that this district is comparatively educationally backward and setting up of such an institute would help address the problem of regional imbalance.
He said that the proposed multi-faculty university would cater to the diverse needs of students. A medical college would also be set up on the complex of the university besides other academic institutions. The construction work on the complex will start soon and classes are expected to commence from the next academic session.
The stone-laying ceremony will be attended, among others, by Rao Inderjit Singh, Union Minister of State for Defence Production, Mange Ram Gupta, Education and Transport Minister, Haryana, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, P.W (B&R) and Irrigation Minister, Haryana, Rao Dan Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Transport Department, Haryana, Naresh Yadav, M.L.A, Ateli; Radhey Shyam Sharma, M.L.A, Narnaul, and Rao Yadavendra Singh, M.L.A, Jatusana.
Besides, it is also proposed to set up three medical colleges, one exclusively for girls, and four research laboratories in Haryana. Health care being one of the main concerns of the State Government, there is a proposal to establish a new medical college, exclusively for girls. at Khanpur Kalan in Sonepat District and another medical college in Mewat District. The Employees State Insurance Corporation has also sanctioned a Medical College in Faridabad.
With focus on the expansion of educational facilities and making education accessible to all, the State Government is laying great emphasis on the development of human resources. With the objective of providing quality education, the State Government has proposed to increase the budget for higher education to Rs 397 crore on non-plan side and to Rs 229.6 crore on Plan side for 2009-10.
