CM directs to release 171 pending electricity connections for tubewells

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 3
Haryana Chief Minister  Manohar Lal has directed for release of all 171 pending electricity  connections of drinking water tubewells in the State within next two weeks even as he called for promotion of innovative methods of water conservation like placing a brick in the cistern by the people of the state.
He gave these directions during a meeting chaired by him to review the arrangements made by the PHED to ensure that it there would be no shortage of drinking water in the State during the summer season. He suggested the method of placing a brick in the flush tank of a toilet  when it was pointed out that many old cisterns of 12 liters capacity waste water as only 3.5 litres water is enough for  flushing of urine and 7.5 liters for defecation.
He called for launching of a state wide  campaign to identify or rectify leakages in pipelines in the urban and rural areas, so as to prevent wastage as well as contamination of water. He was assured that adequate chlorination is being ensured before supply of drinking water to the consumers.
He directed the officers of  Irrigation Department to ensure timely filling up of the storage tanks of all the 1461 canal water based works on top priority during the summer season.
He was informed said that it has been decided to launch a special campaign in urban areas, in atleast one town in each district having population less than 50,000 as per census 2011. The campaign would continue for atleast four days in a week but entire town would be covered before June 30, 2015.
He said that during the campaign, the present status of water supply scheme and sewerage scheme with respect to number of house connections, number of sewerage connections and quantity of water being supplied daily should be compiled by the concerned Sub Divisional Engineer, looking after the water supply and sewerage system. Apart from this, a team of two persons comprising of one Block Resources Coordinator and one Mechanical staff working on the water supply system would be constituted who would visit each and every house of the town and collect the information.
He said that during the visit to each house, the team would pursue with the owners of the house to get sanctioned Water Supply or Sewerage Connection wherever distribution pipelines or sewerage system is existing within a distance of 30 meters from the house. After completion of formalities, the water supply or sewerage connection would be sanctioned on the spot and preferably on the same day. But in any case, the consumer would not be required to visit office of Sub Divisional Engineer during the campaign, he added.
