Chandigarh, March 15
A sum of Rs. 220 crore has been released for the 2021-22 financial year for Kurukshetra University. An amount of Rs.18,300 lakh was released in 2020-21. Of this, 14,300 lakh was released in recurring items and Rs 4,000 lakh was released in non-recurring items. Haryana Education Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal said this while responding to a question during the Vidhan Sabha session today.
He said that an amount of Rs. 7,521 lakh was released in the year 2015-16, Rs. 7,800 lakh in 2016-17, Rs. 8,200 lakh in 2017-18, Rs. 9,500 lakh in 2018-19, Rs. 16,300 lakh in 2019-20 and an amount of Rs. 18,300 lakh was released in 2020-21.
These amounts included recurring and non-recurring amounts. Recurring funds are spent on employees' salaries, pensions and other establishment work. Non-recurring amount is spent on construction work, furniture and other development works.
The Education Minister said that Kurukshetra University being an autonomous body also earns income from its own sources. While presenting the details, he said that the university has had an income of Rs. 13,947.65 lakh in 2015-16, Rs. 15,325.03 lakhs in 2016-17, Rs. 16,700.60 lakh in 2017-18, Rs. 14,988.42 lakhs in 2018-19, Rs. 15,946.73 lakhs in 2019-20 and Rs. 8,705.17 lakh in 2020-21.
The Education Minister said that there are several reasons for the delay in salary and pension. These include revenue deficit due to transfer of affiliated colleges from the academic session 2016-17 to new universities and increase in salary and pension of teaching and non-teaching employees in 2017. In addition, there was loss of in income due to the COVID-19 as well.
