Chandigarh, October 6
Hosts Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU)of Rohtak and M.G. University from Kottayam emerged champions in the the men's and women's sections, respectively, in the All- India Inter-University Cross-Country Championship int Rohtak today. Deep Chandra Pal (CSJM University, Kanpur)and Savita Dhankar (MDU, Rohtak)claimed the best athlete's award in the men’s andwomen’s category, respectively.
The men's team championship went to MDU, Rohtak and Karnataka University (Dharwar) were runners-up. University of Rajasthan (Jaipur)were third. In the women's section, M.G.U. (Kottayam)were winners and MDU (Rohtak) runners-up. Calicut University (Calicut) got the third position position.
In the individual men’s category, Deep Chandrapal (CSJMU, Kanpur) with a timing of 38:01 won the gold medal. Ashwani Kumar (MDU, Rohtak) captured silver in 38:08 minutes. Vishram Meena(Rajasthan Univ., Jaipur) clocked 38:24 for the third position.
In the women's category, Savita Dhankar (MDU, Rohtak) timed 17:56 minutes to claim gold. Nav Joban Kaur (P.U., Chandigarh) was runner-up in 18:03. Remeswari M.V. (Calicut Univ., Calicut) -clocked 18:26 for the third position.
Earlier, Commissioner, Rohtak Division S.P.Gupta lagged off the races Vice-Chancellor, MDU Dr.R.P.Hooda gave away prizes to the winners. MDU Director (Sports) Dr. K.S.Sangwan was the organizing secretary of the championship.
