The AC Volvo Bus Company has decided to give bestdriver award of the year to Mr. Raj Kumar, Driver No.168 of Haryana Roadways for his appreciable devotion to duty.
A spokesman of Haryana Roadways said that the AC Volvo Bus Service was introduced by the State Government in August 2008 with newly acquired fleet of 10 Volvo semi sleeper buses. In a very short period, this special kind of bus service achieved great recognition and popularity from the public and achieved good profit.
He said that with the sincere cooperation of the operational staff,
Chandigarh Depot earned gross profit with passenger tax amounting to Rs.303.5 lakh and without passenger tax Rs.222.49 lakh during the period from April 2009 to October 2009. The update profit after charging all the expenditure on operation of this luxury bus service for the period from August 2008 to October 2009 came to Rs.413.7 lakh without passenger tax.
The overall traffic receipt of the Depot during the short tenure of
April 2009 to October 2009 increased from Rs.2584.92 lakh to Rs.3008.91 lakh in comparison to the corresponding period of the last year, which could be accessed as a good achievement, he added.
Licences of 248 depot holders cancelled

Licences of 248 depot holders were cancelled and security deposit amounting to Rs.5.12 lakh of 616 dealers was forfeited in Haryana for committing various irregularities in the distribution of essential commodities during the period from April 1 to October 2009.
Haryna Food and Supplies Minister Mahendra Pratap Singh said that licences of 85 depot holders had been cancelled and security deposit amounting to Rs.82,500 of 80
dealers had been forfeited during the month of October, 2009 alone.
Essential commodities were being provided to the people through 9,303 fair price shops, which are located near industrial units, student hostels and far-flung areas of the State, said Mr. Mahendra Pratap Singh adding that out of the total fair price shops functioning in the State, 6,649 were located in the rural areas and 2,654 in urban areas.
As many as 77 fair price shops were located near industrial units and 22 fair price shops near schools/hostels, he added.
The Minister said that in October, 40,228 metric tonnes wheat was distributed through fair price shops among the Below Poverty Line families and the beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
To ensure effective check over the fair price shops and supervise the
distribution of controlled commodities, village level committees of members of Panchayats and others were functioning in the State, he added.
