CHANDIGARH, MARCH 15
Now while filling up the admission form at an educational institute in Haryana, those who are18 plus in age will be able to also get themselves registered as electors as it would be mandatory for educational institutions to provide Form No. 6 along with the admission form.
In a written communication addressed to all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers, the Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mrs Sumita Misra has urged them to put up banners, hoardings, posters signages in high traffic areas like Mini Secretariats, Bus Stands, and Community Health Centres requesting the general public to come forward to get their names registered in the electoral rolls and to get prepared their Electors' Photo Identity Card (EPIC), if they are otherwise eligible. However, the guidelines of High Court and others be kept in view while putting up hoardings on roadside.
She has sought active cooperation of all the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers in improving electoral rolls by enlisting a maximum number of young voters. She has also urged them to hold a meeting with Principals of Government and private senior secondary schools, colleges, technical institutions and Universities to motivate the youth for registration of their names in rolls. Form No. 6 should be made available to them in sufficient quantity. They should be asked to ensure providing the Form 6 with the admission form compulsorily to each student who is 18 plus in age. There should be a nodal teacher or official and they should ensure that eligible students submit their claims alongwith their admission forms. The forms received may be dropped by the students or officials in the drop-box placed in the institutes.
She has asked them to place locked drop-box at each school of above matric standard, colleges, institutes and universities both technical and non-technical. In consultation with the in-charge of school, college, institution, one teacher or official from the above quarter should be designated to collect the applications dropped in the drop-box at the end of the month and send these to the District Election Officer so that the same are sent to the Electoral Registration Officer concerned for further action.
She has also asked them to hold a meeting in the Universities with the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar and in consultation with them one person from their University should be designated to receive the forms as mentioned above and to drop in the drop-box. Forms thus received should be taken out at the end of the month by such official and sent to the District Election Officer. Information regarding numbers of new admissions above the matric standard and upto university level, both technical and non-technical, should be obtained and comparison be made of the number of registration of young electors between 18-25 vis-à-vis number of admissions in various educational institutions. Local level public outreach and voter education and awareness campaigns involving National Service Scheme, Nehru Yuva Kendra, NGO’s and media should be held throughout the year.
She has also made a similar request to all the Universities in the State by writing a letter to their Vice Chancellors
