Haryana annual school calendar released

 The Haryana School Education Department has released the Annual School Calendar for the academic year 2012-13.
          While stating this here today, Education Minister Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal said that calendar of annual activities would help in  effective implementation of provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act and  bring further improvement of the education system in schools.
          Mrs. Bhukkal said the calendar provides information about admissions, day schedules, holidays, co-curricular activities, sports activities, exhibitions and annual functions to students and teachers. She said that school would remain open at 8 a.m. and close at 2.30 p.m. during first semester which starts from April 1, 2012 and continue till September 30, 2012. Similarly, second semester would start from October 1 and continue upto March 31, 2013 and the timings of the schools would be 9.15 am to 3.45 pm.
          She said that all the schools had to follow a fixed timetable according to the calendar. During the summer semester from March 1 to December 14, 2012, the schools would organise 20-minute morning prayer  from 8 am to 8.20 am  which would be followed by  zero period and later by another eight periods of which first six would be of 40 minutes each and seventh and eighth period would be of 35 minutes each.
She said that during winter semester from December 15, 2012 to February 28, 2013, all schools would open at 9.15 a.m. and close at 3.45 p.m and same pattern of summer semester of Morning Prayer followed by zero period and eight periods would be followed.
          Mrs Bhukkal said that general admission for class first to eight would start from April 1 and continue till September 30, 2012. Special admission to these classes with the approval of School Management Committees without late fee would commence from October 1, 2012 and close on March 31, 2013. Similarly, general admissions to classes ninth, tenth and twelfth would takes place from April 1 to April 20, 2012. Special admissions without late fee to these classes with the permission of head of the institute would be held between April 21 and 30, 2012. Admissions would also be held between May 1 to 10, 2012 with the intervention of concerned Block Education Officer. 
          She said that as per calendar, general admissions to eleventh class would takes place within ten days after declaration of results by Board. Provisional admissions would start from April 1, 2012. Special admissions without late fee with the permission of head of institute and concerned Block Education Officer would takes place during next 10 days.
          The Education Minister said that there would be a total of 231 working days in schools in a year. The schools would observe total 74 holidays during the first semester and 59 in the second semester including 10 autumn break. 10 winter break  and 30 summer holidays. Summer vacation would be from June 1 to 30, 2012, and winter break from January 7 to 16, 2013.
          She said that apart from block and district level, a state-level cultural fest would also be organized.  State level general knowledge competitions would also be organized on October 1, 2012. Sports activities for the students of class sixth to twelfth in different age groups would also be organized. Besides, exhibition and annual functions at block or school level, district and state level functions would also be organized. She said that monthly meetings would be conducted from block level to headquarters level for evaluation and  further strengthening of  the education system.
