CHANDIGARH, SEPT 30
With a view to promoting pisciculture in Haryana, a Centre of Excellence for shrimp culture in saline water would be set up in district Jhajjar in collaboration with Vietnam.
In this regard, Haryana Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, Mr. Om Parkash Dhankar, met a delegation from Vietnam, led by Mr. Vu Van Tam, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, at New Delhi today.
Apart from fish farming, promotion of horticulture and floriculture in Haryana was also discussed at length in the meeting. The nine-member delegation included four officers of Vietnam’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department and five officers from the Vietnam Embassy in Delhi.
Terming the meeting as cordial and beneficial for the State, Mr. Dhankar said that the State Government was making efforts to promote horticulture, pisciculture and floriculture as alternatives to cultivation of traditional crops, which were not proving to be very profitable. This is being done to ensure increase in income of farmers.
He added that Vietnam was quite advanced in the fields of horticulture and floriculture, and Haryana could benefit from its technology and assistance. The Agriculture Minister added that the water in district Jhajjar was saline, and provided endless possibilities for rearing saltwater fish. Besides a Centre of Excellence for shrimp culture, a Skill Development Centre would also be established in the district so that training could be imparted to those interested in pisciculture. Private agency Rurban Skills has also expressed interest in imparting agro-based technical skills in Haryana, in collaboration with Vietnam.
The Haryana Agriculture Minister added that Mr. Tam had invited a delegation from Haryana to visit Vietnam so that they could gather information about horticulture, pisciculture and floriculture.
On this occasion, Haryana Fisheries Department gave a presentation regarding their excellent works.
Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr. Ton Sinh Thanh and Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Viet Chau were part of the delegation.
