Proposals for various new projects for Gurugram approved

The 9th meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was held in Gurugram today under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister  Manohar Lal Khattar in which proposals for various new projects for Gurugram were approved. Besides this, the proceedings of the previous meeting and the ongoing works were also discussed in detail.

        Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh and Transport Minister, Mr Mool Chand Sharma were also present in the meeting.

        Before the meeting, a two-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and other army officers who died in the helicopter crash.

        In today's meeting, key topics included providing 24 hours clean drinking water in Gurugram, promoting the use of recycled and treated wastewater, upgrading Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), constructing a new sports stadium on 12 acres of land in Farukhnagar, new sports facilities at Tau Devilal Stadium were discussed in detail.

        Besides this, infrastructure improvement from Sector-58 to 115, 100 MLD capacity water treatment plant at Chandu Budhera to ensure adequate drinking water supply in these sectors, development of Gurugram water supply channel as RCC box channel and adding 100 mini busses to the fleet of city bus were also discussed in detail. 

The Chief Minister was apprised that in the first phase of the clean drinking water project, this facility will be started in 7 residential areas including Basai village. These include Sector-4, 9, 9A, 15 Part-1, 15 Part-2 and Sector 14. The estimated cost to be spent on this would be around Rs 140 to 175 crore. Approval was also given in the meeting for the upgradation work of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) from Faridabad Road to Vatika Chowk, on which an amount of about Rs 540 crore would be spent.

        Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram, Metropolitan Development Authority, Gurugram, Sh. Sudhir Rajpal informed that there was deadlock at 221 places in infrastructure from Sector-58 to 115, out of which the deadlock has been resolved at 48 places. Action is being taken to remove the deadlock at the remaining 171 places as well.

        Sh. Sudhir Rajpal apprised that at present there is a demand of about 490 MLD of clean drinking water in Gurugram city, against which about 530 MLD of clean drinking water is being received from the water treatment plants of Basai and Chandu Budhera. In the future, it is necessary to develop a water treatment plant of 100 MLD capacity to meet the demand of drinking water supply in the newly developing sectors 58 to 115 and 23 new villages coming under the purview of the Municipal Corporation. It will cost around Rs 110 crore, he added.

        In addition, the Gurugram water supply channel, which supplies drinking water to the city of Gurugram, will be developed as an RCC box channel. This box channel will be made of 200 cusec capacity, which will cost around Rs 100 crore.

        In the meeting, approval was also given to the proposal to build a new sports stadium in Farukhnagar on about 12 acres of land. It will cost around Rs. 4.16 crore. The Chief Minister said that after constructing the stadium, it would be handed over to the Sports Department. Similarly, new sports facilities including shooting range, badminton hall and swimming pool will be added at Devilal Stadium and the existing cricket stadium will be upgraded.

        Sh. Rajpal further informed that at present there is a policy of using treated wastewater according to which every municipality had to use at least 25 percent of the treated wastewater by 2021 and currently in Gurugram about 64 percent is being reused.

        In the meeting, the proposal for laying a pipeline for the use of treated wastewater from Golf Course Extension Road to Police Training Center Bhondsi and Damdama forest area was also approved. Simultaneously, it was decided that Irrigation Department, CADA and Pond Authority would jointly prepare a project for this.

        In order to streamline the local traffic system in Gurugram, the proposal to include 100 mini busses in the city bus fleet was also approved in the meeting. This will facilitate the smooth movement of more traffic in congested areas.

        Sh. Rajpal informed that 32 possible routes have been identified for mini bus after consulting public representatives and others. He informed that Passenger Information System will also be installed at Bus Queue Shelters so that the passengers coming there can get accurate information about the arrival time of the bus.

        The expansion of metro rail connectivity was also discussed in the meeting. It was informed in the meeting that a proposal for the expansion of the 28 km Metro network in Gurugram has been prepared and sent to the Government of India after completing all the formalities. The Central Government has given its in-principle approval in this matter. Apart from this, a proposal to build a metro spur line from Rezangla Chowk to Dwarka in Gurugram has also been sent to the Centre.
