PANCHKULA, MAY 14
Nishant Arora and Ishita Gupta won the boys and girls under-15 titles, respectively, in the District Panchkula Open Chess Championship organized by the Chess Association Panchkula at St Terrasa Convent School in Sector 25 here today.
Nishant Arora of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15 secured six points to claim the title. Close on his heel was silver medalist Rahul Chadha of DAV School, Sector 8 of Panchkula who obtained 5.5 points. Local girl Ishita Gupta obtained five points to emerge winner. Palak Arora of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, got silver medal with four points.
Chandigarh players dominated the Under-11 boys category as they won all the first three points. Anubhav Tuknayat (6 points), Jashan Khurana (5 pts) and Rishab Jain (4.5 pts)
Mr. Amit Chopra, Mrs. Isha Chopra and Mr. Sanjeev Chopra jointly distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners. Also present on the occasion was Harish Kumar, Secretary of District Chess Association Panchkula).
Results (Boys) U-11: 1 Anubhav Tuknayat (6 points, Chandigarh), 2 Jashan Khurana (5 pts, Chandigarh), 3 Rishab Jain (4.5 pts, Chandigarh) 4 Aniket Malik (4 pts, Bhavan Vidyalaya Sec-15 Pkl), 5 Navneesh Singh (3.5 pts, Bhavan Vidyalaya-15 Pkl).
Girls: 1 Harshita Singla (5 pts, The Gurukul School-20 Pkl), 2 Aishani Sharma (4.5 pts, The British School-8 Pkl), 3 Manpreet Kumar (4 pts, The British School-8 Pkl), 4 Aastha Dhawan (3.5 pts, The Gurukul School-20, Pkl), 5 Suhavi Arora (3 pts, The British School-8 Pkl).
U-15 (Boys): 1 Nishant Arora (6 pts, Bhavan Vidyalaya-15 Pkl), 2 Rahul Chadha (5.5 pts, DAV-8 Pkl), 3 Avneesh (4.5 pts, Bhavan Vidyalaya-15 Pkl), 4 Mukul Sharma (4 pts, The Gurukul School-26 Pkl), 5 Nikhil Narang (3 pts St. Teresa Convent, Sector 25 Pkl)
