A course on stress management and soft skill development was held at Police Line, Panchkula. This course was second in line after being initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) last week. Present himself at this occasion ADGP, CID Mr Anil Kumar Rao, the think tank behind this course, briefed the guest speakers and the audience present that a police personnel was different in his ability to handle a stressful situation due to the nature of job and the training involved.
He impressed upon the mental and physical health of his personnel and asked the guest speakers to give them simple and easy techniques to counter stress anger etc.
The one day course had a panel of speakers. To begin with Professor Shalini Singh, a psychologist from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. She spoke on the topic of impulsiveness, aggression its management, emotional quotient and she also interacted with the personnel through questionnaire and simple mental exercises. This was a fruitful session as Prof. Shalini Singh was able to comprehend traits of individual personality.
This session was followed by a talk by Mr Rajiv Batra, who is an art of living expert with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Through his talk, he explained the importance of being in the present for a happy state of mind. The importance of positivity and achieving it simply by focussing on one's breath by techniques like Sudarshan Kriya.
One of the guest speakers was also Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, Mrs Charu Bali. She is a 1995 batch IPS officer and shared with the audience practical examples from her own life. She spoke of tackling stress by forming a positive attitude towards life and focussing on doing the assigned task with belief. She also quoted from the Bhagwad Gita and how it has inspired her.
The last speaker for the day was Mr Amit Beri, who is a meditation expert and Vedic healer. He did simple mental exercises with the police personnel and reminded them of taking some time out within the day to meditate and exercise.
The takeaway from the cause today was the sensitive attitude of the Haryana Police for the mental and physical health of its force. The men performing security duties were risking their own lives for the protected and performing duties at significant places.
Later on, briefing the press, ADGP, CID, Mr Anil Kumar Rao said that this was like an ice-breaking session with his personnel and would remain an ongoing process. He said that Haryana Police would always strive for the best. He said that the morale of the men was high and they were ready to perform any duty.
