Haryana provides jobs to 253 dependents of martyrs and enhanced ex-gratia

CHANDIGARH, OCT 25
While describing the defense personnel as the pride of the country, Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal said that the present State Government has not only increased the amount of ex-gratia being given to the dependents of martyrs but also provided government jobs to 253 dependents during the last four years by giving relaxation in the policy.
          Mr Manohar Lal who was addressing a press conference on the successful completion of four years of the present State government in Panchkula near here today said that contrary to this only 18 dependents of the martyrs were provided government jobs during the ten years of previous government.
          The Chief Minister said that the State Government has also amended the existing policy as per which now the married daughters of martyrs would also be provided government jobs. It has also been decided that government job of Group B would be provided to the dependents of martyrs of officer rank. Earlier, only Group C and D government jobs were provided to them. Apart from this, a separate Department of Sainik Welfare has been set up for the welfare of ex-servicemen (ESM) of the State. He said that though the State accounts for only 2 per cent of total population of the country, its contribution in the armed forces is 10 per cent.
          While referring to various steps taken in the interest of the farming community in the State, he said the present State Government has taken several path breaking initiatives in the last four years which has never been taken by any previous government. We have successfully implemented the  Bhavantar Barpai Yojana  for vegetables and bajra in the State. Buoyed  by the success of Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana, the scheme is also being followed by other states. Water has reached to the tail ends in the State and separate Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran has been constituted.
          The Chief Minister said that Haryana has made sizeable progress in  improving the gender ratio in the State. The efforts made by  the State in the effective implementation of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme has earned appreciation at national and international level. He said figure of gender ratio in the State 25 years back were more alarming as it dipped between 700 to 800 girls per 1000 boys.
          He said that Haryana has already been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) and now the State is heading towards achieving ODF plus status. Haryana also bagged first position in the Swacchta Sarvekshan  Grameen conducted three months earlier. He said that as part of environment conservation, the State Government has also decided to increase the forest cover in the State from 3.9 per cent to 10 per cent. Recently a campaign was launched in the State under which the students of classes 6th to 12th were involved. The students were encouraged to plant atleast one sapling after the name of their ancestors or any great personality and also ensure its upkeep for three years. The students participated overwhelmingly in the campaign as 24 lakh saplings were planted as against the target of 21 lakh.
