State Election Commissioner, Haryana, Mr.Dharam Vir today said that those residents of Haryana whose names somehow could not be included in the list of voters for the 4th Municipal General Elections, could still apply to the Deputy Commissioner concerned upto April 30 for inclusion of their names.
Mr Dharam Vir, who addressed a press conference here today, said that while conducting scrutiny of the voter lists, names of 96448 voters of Faridabad and 23000 voters of Kurukshetra were deleted.
He said that a control room would be set up to function round-the-clock.One could dial 0172-2584810 to get any information concerning Municipal General Elections. When asked about the elections to the new municipal corporations in the State, he said that the State Government would form wards and then the voter lists would be finalised before conducting elections to these municipal corporations.
He said that elections to the Panchayats could also be held any time and the State Election Commission was fully geared up to conduct Panchayat elections in the State. Some cases concerning panchayats were still pending with the Punjab and Haryana High Court and were scheduled to be taken up shortly. It would be only after their decision that the date of Panchayat elections would be decided.
When asked about security measures to be taken for Municipal General Elections, he said that Deputy Commissioners and Police Department have been asked to identify sensitive areas, if any, so that adequate security measures could be taken. However, he made it clear that there was no need to seek the help of para military forces.
