Water Conservation Measures

CHANDIGARH, MAY 10
In view of the ensuing monsoon season, the Haryana Government has formulated a State Integrated Action Plan to take  Water Conservation Measures. These measures included desilting of water bodies, lining of canals, construction of ponds and reservoirs and planting saplings.
        This was informed in a meeting presided over by Haryana Chief Secretary, Mr D.S.Dhesi here today.
        It was decided to take short term, medium term and long term measures for effective implementation of the State Integrated Action Plan for water conservation.
        The Chief Secretary directed the Departments of Irrigation, Agriculture, Development and Panchayats as well as Public Health and Engineering to implement the Action Plan effectively.
        It was decided that the   short term measures would include a six-week plan to de-silt  170 water bodies and  restore them. These water bodies included  tanks, farm  ponds and community ponds. Also, 194 new farm  ponds, community ponds, tanks and reservoirs would be constructed. It was also decided to construct 175 ground water recharge structures and 56 rainwater harvesting structures, on roof tops to conserve water.
          Apart from this, lining of canals   and improvement  of water channels in a length of 598 Kilometers would be carried out besides constructing   51 check dams. Also, saplings would be planted over an area of  six hectares. It was also decided that these departments would take  154 other conservation measures during this period.
          It was informed that as a part of the medium term measures, the Irrigation Department has prepared  a micro irrigation project costing Rs 25 crore  to lift water with solar pumps for irrigation purposes in 13 districts. Also, as a long term measure, a project under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme involving an investment of Rs 29 crore has been sent   to the Central Government for its approval.

THEMATIC SANITATION FORTNIGHT: A thematic sanitation fortnight is being conducted near factories and manufacturing complexes in industrial area of Gurgaon.
While stating this today, a spokesman of district administration said that it has been organized on the directions of the Union Ministry of Urban Development. The Cleanest Factory Award would be declared after May 15, he added.
A team of the Ministry lead by its Technical Officer  , Mr. Satish Kumar today visited IDC at Mehrauli road in Gurgaon to conduct survey.
Mr. Kumar said that ranking would be given on the basis of the survey. The team conducted survey of some of the industrial units. He said that Cleanest Factory Award would be given to industrial units which would fulfill the prescribed criteria.

STORM WATER DRAINS: The Haryana Government has decided to construct storm water drains in Ambala City and Narnaul at a total estimated expenditure of   Rs 1821.87 lakh.
          While stating this here today, a spokesman of Public Health Engineering Department said that the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has approved the proposal.
          He said that these included construction of RCC covered storm water drain,box type, at Kalka Chowk area along National Highway No.1 to the existing Session Court drain and  construction of RCC covered storm water drain,box type, at Ganesh Vihar, Saraswati Nagar near National Highway No. 65 and storm water disposal work at Ganesh Vihar colony, district Ambala at an  estimated expenditure of Rs 619.30 lakh.
          He said that a Nallah along G.T. road from Kalka Chowk to Banuri Nakka extension would be constructed in Ambala City at revised estimate of Rs 993.22 lakh.
         He said that lowering of RCC pipes to drain out the storm water in various mohallas of Narnaul town would cost an estimated expenditure of Rs 209.35 lakh.
