Haryana Director General of Police B. S. Sandhu announced that the players of Haryana Police, who would bag gold, silver and bronze medals in the upcoming Jakarta Asian Games, would be awarded with cash prize. He said that Rs 10 lakh would be given for gold medal, Rs 7 lakh for silver medal and Rs 5 lakh for bronze medal. This amount would be given on behalf of the Police Department.
Mr. Sandhu was speaking after honouring four outstanding sportspersons of Haryana Police who have brought laurels to the state and nation by winning one gold and three silver medals in recently concluded Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia, at Panchkula near here today. Those who were awarded included gold medalist Vikas Krishan and silver medalists Mausam Khatri, Babita Phogat and Seema Antil.
While Vikas Krishan, DSP had bagged gold medal in boxing, Mausam Khatri, and Babita Phogat, both Sub Inspector (SI) had won silver medal in wrestling. Similarly, Seema Antil, SI had made the state and country proud by bagging silver medal in discuss throw event.
Mr Sandhu congratulated all the players and added that it is matter of pride that Haryana police personnel are not only participating in national and international sports events but also made their identity in country’s medal tally. He said that all these four players were recruited in Haryana Police under Sports Policy of the State government.
He also presented a cheque of Rs five lakh to gold medallist Vikas Krishan and Rs three lakh each to silver medallists namely Mausam Khatri, Babita Phogat and Seema Antil.
Others present on the occasion included, Director General Police Headquarter, Mr K.K. Mishra, Additional Director General of Police (Crime), Mr P.K. Aggarwal, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Mr Mohd. Akil, Inspector General of Police, Law and Order, Mr A.S. Chawla and other senior officers of the Police Department.
