The Medical Council of India has granted recognition of 100 seats
of MBBS to Bhagat Phool Singh Government Women Medical College ,Khanpur Kalan,
district Sonepat from the academic session 2012-13.
While stating this here today ,a spokesman of the university
said that Mrs.Sonia Gandhi , Chairperson, United Progressive Alliance had laid
the foundation stone of this medical college on March1,2009. It is built over
an area of 100 acres.This medical college costing Rs 450 crores was constructed
by National Building Constructions Corporation within a record period of two
years. In the first phase ,Rs 310 crore were spent on it and in the
second phase Rs 100 crore would be spent .Also ,about Rs 40 crore would be
spent on medical equipments and other necessities.
He said that in the independent India
it was the first medical college for women .Under the recognition of any
medical college, it was mandatory to run a hospital equipped with all special
medical facilities. Haryana Chief Minister Mr.Bhupinder Singh Hooda had
entrusted the responsibility to run this hospital to a renowned orthopedic
surgeon, Dr. R C Siwach. Initially, the capacity of this hospital was 100 beds
which has now been increased to 400 beds. For the students of this medical
college , air conditioned ultra modern lecture theatres, museum of different
departments ,e- library and ultra modern equipments for training have
been provided.
He said that at present there were 135
specialist doctors, 200 staff nurses and 50 paramedical staff employed in this
Medical College. International level ICU facility of 20 beds was also available
in this hospital .After Rohtak and New Delhi ,such type of ICU facilities has
been set up only in this medical college. Equipped with improved facilities,
emergency services were available round-the-clock.
He said that at an average 1800
patients come to the OPDs daily in the departments of medicine ,pediatric,
chest and tuberculosis treatment , eye treatment, ENT , dermatology ,surgery,
orthopedics ,gynecology and dentistry. Also, on an average daily 20-25 major
surgeries were being done by the specialists.
