Ram Bilas for Board examinations for Classes V and VIII

CHANDIGARH, FEB 12
Haryana Education Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma said today that the State Government has sent a proposal to the Central Government for conducting Board examinations for Classes V and VIII in Haryana.
The Education Minister was speaking at the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) under Education Division of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in New Delhi. The meeting was presided over by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Mr. Upendra Kushwaha.
Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Sub-Committee, said that 22 states have sent proposal to the Central Government for removing the No-Detention Policy in order to reduce the drop-out rate. He said that such meetings should be conducted at those places where the drop-out rate is high and the poverty is the main reason for dropping-out. Other members of the Sub-Committee, who belonged to different states, also offered their suggestions.
He said that a clean and favourable environment should be provided in schools and Education Officers should adopt a village each. He said that ‘Model Sanskriti Vidyalaya’ and ‘Aarohi Schools’ should be established.
He said that the Haryana Government has made consistent efforts under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme, which have resulted in improvement in the sex ratio during the last 15 months. He said that as a result of the condition of minimum educational qualification in the elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State, well-educated candidates have been elected to these institutions.
The Minister also suggested that the next meeting of this Sub-Committee be organised in Haryana.
