CHANDIGARH, MAY 1
An awareness camp was organized today by District Legal Services Authority Gurgaon, in Government Senior Secondary School Sector-4 Gurgaon on 'Protection of Women and Girl Children from Sexual Harassment'.
On this occasion the activities of Legal Literacy Clubs of schools were also coordinated which were being undertaken on the directions of District Legal Services Authority Gurgaon. Girls students gave presentation of self defense as to how a girl should protect herself in case of any unwanted attack. Different situations were explained in the presentation by which other students of variuos schools were also encouraged .
Ms. Suruchi Atreja Singh CJM-cum-Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Gurgaon addressed the children and told them about fundamental duties and said that discussion is usually done on our rights but we forget that we have also some constitutional duties to perform. The constitution provides for fundamental duties under Article 51A which forms the essence of the constitution and if each child observe the same, change can be brought not only in them but to the society at large.
Unity and integrity of the country can be preserved and feeling of brotherhood can be spread. Children were explained fundamental duties in a simple manner as to how it can make a difference. They were told their duty of protecting environment which can be in the form by one person not spilling things himself or herself non littering and not the trees or flowers which will give them a healthy environment.
Protection of public property also is a fundamental duty which can be ensured by the children. Citing an example, she said that children often write on their school desks and if they decide not to do so, the life of the table would increase and they would themselves feel nice in sitting on such table and would not complain about bad infrastructure if such change is made by simply performing their fundamental duty.
CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority Gurgaon also told that one of the duties is to reform the society and that she has done her duty by spreading this knowledge on this occasion and can do the same by spreading the knowledge to another and the society at large would change.
Children were also told about good touch and bad touch and how the crime could be prevented . Children heard about their role and the teachers were told to ensure that children are taught everyday about their fundamental duties as well as good touch and bad touch for sometime in the school in order to have an impact on their young minds.
Ms. Charu Gupta Advocate and Mr Baldev Bhardwaj Advocate of DLSA Gurgaon also deliberated on this occasion on sexual harassment and what steps should be taken by the children in order to protect themselves as well as the people surrounding them and how to seek a redressal.
Mr Virender Sharma Principal of the school alongwith school staff was also present on the occasion. Publicity material regarding different books were also distributed amongst the children by Govt. Senior Secondary School Sector-4 Gurgaon in order to create awareness amongst them.
