CHANDIGARH, MAY 21
The Haryana Government has decided to disburse old age allowance, widow pension and pension to the physically challenged through banks. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Mr Hooda made it clear that the scheme would be implemented in a phased manner in cities and villages having bank branches.
He said that, however, those villages which do not have bank branches; the system of disbursement of pension through Sarpanches would be continued. Those beneficiaries who have bank accounts would be able to take the benefit of this scheme.
In the meeting, Mr. Hooda was apprised that a pilot project was implemented in Barwala, disrtrict Panchkula to distribute the social security pension through Banks and this has been successful. On the same lines, it has been decided to replicate the same method in cities and villages having bank branches.
Mr. Hooda was apprised that with the disbursement of pension to the beneficiaries through banks, the dependency of beneficiaries on village Sarpanches would be significantly reduced. Moreover, the amount of pension would be deposited in their bank accounts on first of every month. He was also informed that the beneficiaries could withdraw their pension on any working day in a month which would also avoid heavy rush as is witnessed in case of disbursement of pension through Sarpanches.
