The footfall in the 28th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2014 has reached about 1.75 lakh including about 24,000 international visitors.
While stating this today the member of Surajkund Mela Authority and Managing Director of Haryana Tourism, Mrs Sumita Mishra said that this time the food court has been set up as per the taste of the people with a perfect combination of traditional and modern mouth watering cuisines which is being highly liked by the people. She said that this time a special initiative has been taken by making the youth a part of the Mela and to further encourage them, they are given redemption from the entry tickets on showing their identity cards.
She said that only the craftspersons enlisted in the list given by the government are allowed to set up their stalls in the Mela after screening which include national and state awardees. She said that Haryana Tourism has been preparing for the Mela since last three months. She said that proper arrangements have been made for the artisans and craftspersons including their stay and subsidy is also being given to them. She said that the main motive behind organising such a grand Mela is to provide the craftspersons an opportunity to sell their products directly to the buyers without the help of middlemen.
She said that full cooperation would be given to those willing to do research on the Mela. Sri Lanka and Goa have already started its research on the Mela in an unofficial manner. Such a massive and grand Mela for the artisans and craftspersons is not organised at any other place across the globe, she added.
She said that the website of Haryana Tourism Corporation would be launched in the near future providing accurate information about each and every resort. She said that SMS for visiting the Mela have been sent to about 25 lakh people. She said that the closing ceremony of the Mela would be performed in the auspicious presence Haryana Governor Mr Jagannath Pahadia.
