Thailand company to invest Rs 571.2 crore in Punjab

Opening an account a day before the inauguration of the Progressive Punjab Agro-Summit the Punjab Government has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with a reputed Thailand based company operating in India with the name M/s Charoen Pokphand (India) Pvt. Ltd. to invest Rs. 571.2 crore for establishing its five modern units in the field of Poultry and Pig Farming in the state. 
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s office said that a delegation of Charoen Pokphand (Thailand) Company led by its Vice-Chairman Mr. Chaiyaporn Montha called on the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal at his residence this afternoon and apprised Mr. Badal that their company has planed to invest Rs. 571.2 crore in Punjab. The company would establish its five units namely a Feed Mill (Rs. 120 crore), a Hatchery (Rs. 24 crore), a Breeding Farm (Rs. 102 crore), a Broiler Farm (Rs. 324 crore) and a Swine Farm (Rs. 1.2 crore) in the state, adding Mr. Montha informed that the CP Group was intend to commence commercial production by the year 2014 and complete the proposed investment by the year 2018. He also expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for the swift action in signing this MoU from the state government side and also assured Mr. Badal for the timely completion of all projects.
On the occasion on the behalf of the state government the Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry Mr. G. Vajralingam and President North India operations of the  M/s Charoen Pokphand (India) Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Tep Tepsatit signed the MoU and exchanged the documents in the presence of the Chief Minister.
Mr. Badal assured the delegation that their government would extend fulsome support and cooperation to the company for further boosting their operations in the state. He also asked them to initiate some project in the field of fishery particularly in the waterlogged areas of Punjab. Regarding the issue to import animals for setting up of a Swine processing unit in Punjab by the company, Mr. Badal said that it came under the jurisdiction of the Union Government. However, he offered that in this regard the state would write to the GoI in favor of the company whenever needed.  He said that SAD-BJP government was fully committed to boost the allied farming in the state to enhance the profitability to the farming community.
Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included the Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu, CEO Punjab Investment Bureau Mr. Anirudh Tiwari and Director Animal Husbandry Dr. HS Sandha, besides the other members of the delegation Mr. Vitton Kittimong Kolsuk, Mr. Pichet Subin, Mr. Ekkarat Leksut and Consultant Dr. KS Arora.
