Haryana Vigilance Bureau registers 262 criminal cases

Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has registered 262 criminal cases including 226 trap cases against officers and officials of different ranks of the State Government recently. Those against whom cases have been registered included 20 Gazetted Officers, 206 Non-Gazetted Officers and 36 other persons who were caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 20 lakh. Criminal cases under sections 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, have been registered against them in various Police Stations of the Bureau.
          While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Bureau said that the Bureua also recommended registration of 17 criminal cases against 21 Gazetted officers and 19 Non Gazetted officers and 19 others and also recommended departmental action against some erring officials who have been found guilty in the inquiries conducted by the Bureau.
          He said that apart from this, 44 cases have been decided by the Courts, in which 52 officers and officials and nine other private persons have been convicted under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in the cases filed by State Vigilance Bureau, Haryana. Those sentenced included 10 officials of Police Department, nine of Co-operation Department, seven of Education Department, four of Revenue Department, four of Power Department, three of HUDA, two each of Agriculture, Local Bodies, Panchayati Raj and Industries Departments, one each of Health, Irrigation, Animal Husbandry, Home Guards, Public Health, Measurement and Development and Panchayat Departments. Jail terms upto five years have been awarded by the Courts in these cases, he added.
          He said that 147 assessments were carried out by the Technical wing of the Bureau headed by Executive Engineer level officers throughout the State. On the basis of these checkings, the State Vigilance Bureau has recommended action against 183 officers and officials including 55 Executive Engineers, 65 Sub Divisional Engineers and 63 Junior Engineers of various departments along with a recovery of Rs. 3,48,38,012 which has acted as a major deterrent against misutilisation of Government funds, in 95 assessments out of above 147 assessments.
