Haryana State Election Commission has decided to conduct repolling in four polling booths of two districts of Hisar and Karnal in the ongoing elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions as there was some problem in Electronic Voting Machines and these were not used properly. Also, wrong symbols were distributed. The repolling would be conducted on January 24, along with the polling of the third phase.
While giving this information here today, State Election Commissioner, Mr. Rajeev Sharma said that the Commission has declared the poll at these polling stations to be void under Rule-61 of Haryana Panchayati Raj Election Rules, 1994. Fresh polls would be conducted on January 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A notification to this effect has been issued.
He said that decision for repolling has been taken on the basis of reports received from the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers (Panchayat), Hisar and Karnal. The Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers (P) of these districts have thus recommended that repolling be conducted at the affected booths.
Mr. Sharma said that repolling for Sarpanch Gram Panchayat Devigarh Poonia would be conducted at booth number 96 and 97 of Government Primary School, Devigarh Poonia East wing and West wing, Barwala in district Hisar, as the Controlling Unit of pooling booth number 97 did not display the result. Therefore, counting of votes could not be held. Similarly, re-polling for Member Zila Parishad Ward number 22 would be conducted at booth number 179 of Government Primary School, Prem Nagar, West wing (Hansi-1), district Hisar, in view of wrong use of EVM (CU and BU) at Ward Number 22 of Zila Parishad, that is, at the time of commencement of poll. He said that repolling for Panch Ward number 7 of Gram Panchayat Zarifabad would be conducted at booth number 171 of Government Primary School, Zarifabad, Nissing, district Karnal, in view of distribution of wrong symbols.
He said that counting of votes for the seats of Panch and Sarpanch would be taken up on January 24 after the close of polling and counting of votes of the Zila Parishad wards concerned would be taken up on January 28, 2016, at the places to be specified by the District Election Officer (Panchayat) concerned.
