CHANDIGARH, SEPT 11
A three-member
neo-literate team of females of Haryana has won first position in the national
level quiz programme known as “Shiksha ka Suraj” organized by the National
Literacy Mission Authority under Union Ministry of Human Resource Development
on the occasion of celebrations of International Literacy Day at Luknow
from September 7 to 9, 2012.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of State Literacy Mission Authority
(SLMA) said that first position was bagged by three member neo-literate’s
female team of Kavita from Narnaul, Sona and Bubbly from Karnal. He said these
neo-literates were put to test in reading, writing Arithmatics and
understanding. He said that teams of neo-literates from all over India
participated in the quiz Programme. They got LCD TV sets as awards by Ms.
Krishna Tirath, Minister of Child Development and Women Empowerment, Ms D.
Purandeshswari, Union Minister of State for Education and Mr. Jagmohan Singh
Raju, IAS, Director General NLMA. He said that the main objective of the quiz
programme was to create awareness among the people of India about literacy, its
importance and impact.
He said that a
contingent of 200 participants including male and female Resource Persons,
Master Trainers, Mission Coordinators, ‘Preraks’ and Master Working for the
implementation of Saakshar Bharat Mission in Haryana participated in the
celebrations of the International Literacy Day at Lucknow.
He said that these
participants were conspicuous by their Haryanvi dresses, T-shirts, caps and
trousers especially designed for the celebration. He said that the contingent
was led by Haryana’s Assistant Project Managers namely G.L. Singla and Raj
Kumar Arya.
