Punjab should safeguard SYL being Haryana property: Vij

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 16
Haryana Health  Minister Anil Vij said that the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal being the property of Haryana state, the Punjab Government  should ensure the safety of property of the other state.
Mr Vij was speaking at the press conference during the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Session today.
He said that if any state either directly or indirectly does not ensure safety of property of the other state,   this would create lawlessness, which would not be good for the country, state and society. He said that the resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha   is unconstitutional and this has not yet taken any legal form. Despite this, filling up of SYL canal in Punjab area is completely illegal. For this, he would meet   Central leadership    and appeal to them to intervene in this matter. This matter is already under consideration of the Supreme Court. He said that the Government was hopeful to get justice in this regard, as the Supreme Court had earlier also given hard remarks on Kaveri issue.
The Health Minister also condemned the statement of Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal who termed the decision of Punjab Government on SYL canal as right. He said that the Chief Minister should understand what would happen to Delhi, if Haryana too behaves like Punjab with Delhi on its water share. He said that   Delhi has nothing of its own including electricity, water, milk, fruits and vegetables. This kind of small mindedness is not in the interest of the country. He said that for us vote bank comes later, country comes first. He said that our party would not let the federal structure wear out, and for this we are prepared to go to any extent.
Mr Vij said that leaders in the country are blinded by the greed of vote bank. He said that there are some forces which want to divide the country into estates like earlier, but we would not let this happen. In our country all provinces are dependent on each other. If every state started thinking selfishly, who would think of the country and all the sacrifices made by the heroes would be of no use, he added.
CM ADVISES KEJRIWAL TO REMAIN NEUTRAL: Haryana Chief Minister  Manohar Lal  today suggested his Delhi counterpart, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal to remain neutral on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal issue and  choose his words carefully.
The Chief Minister was interacting with media persons after the Budget Session at Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
Replying to a question, Mr. Manohar Lal said that like Haryana, Delhi was also affected by the similar issue. He said that Delhi also did not have its own sources of water and instead, sourced it from other states. Therefore, the carrier of water should remain safe. He said that as Haryana’s water carrier should remain safe in Punjab, Delhi’s water carrier should also be safe.
Replying to another question, he said that land has not yet been released   and no Bill of any kind has been passed. This has been passed only in Punjab Vidhan Sabha. It would not be considered to have been passed until the Governor signs the Bill. He said that all this did not have any bearing as this was a legal battle presently being fought out in the Supreme Court.
In reply to another question, the Chief Minister said that Haryana has passed a resolution in which the Central Government has been asked to resolve the SYL issue at the earliest for protection of Haryana’s water. He hoped for support of the Central Government on this issue.
