The Haryana Agriculture Department has urged the farmers to adopt direct sowing technique for cultivation of paddy crop instead of transplanting it.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that this would not only save water, but would also reduce agriculture cost per acre and save up to 15 to 20 per cent of irrigation water. Apart from this, farmers would use 20 to 30 per cent less electricity for irrigation.
He said that during the current financial year, plants would be displayed to promote direct sowing of paddy and the farmers would be given subsidy of Rs 3,000 per acre. He said that under the National Agriculture Development Programme, a target has been set to carry out direct sowing of paddy over an area of 2500 acres in Yamunanagar, 4000 acres each in Karnal and Kurukshetra, 5000 acres in Kaithal, 2000 acres in Sonipat, 1500 acres in Panipat, 2500 acres in Jind, 1500 acres in Fatehabad, 2500 acres in Palwal and 1000 acres each in Ambala, Jhajjar and Rohtak. As compare to it, under the National Food Security Campaign, target has been fixed to cover 400 acres in Ambala and 300 acres each in Jhajjar and Rohtak for direct sowing of paddy.
He said that to get the subsidy the farmers could visit the website of the Department www.agriharyana.in up to June 25 to submit their application. A farmer can avail subsidy for a maximum of five acres area for direct sowing paddy. This scheme would be implemented on first come-first serve basis. Information on direct sowing could also be obtained from Agriculture Development Officer, Block Agriculture Officer, Sub Division Agriculture Officer or office of Deputy Director Agriculture, he added.
