Keeping in view the rationalization of posts of Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) under the new Teachers Transfer Policy-2016, Haryana Education Department has issued necessary guidelines regarding work allocation in all schools in the state.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Department said that each section in a class would be of 40 students and creation of second section would be allowed after 50 students. Third section would be created after the students’ strength exceeds 90 and so on.
With regard to the period norms, he said that a teacher would normally be given workload upto 36 periods, but would not be given workload beyond 40 periods in any circumstances. Total duration of school in a day would be six-and-a-half hours. There would be 20 minutes prayer time and recess would be of 30 minutes. According to school calendar, there would be eight periods per day. First four periods would be of 45 minutes each and last four of 40 minutes each. He said that it is proposed that PGTs would be given maximum six periods in a day that is 36 periods per week.
Giving details of weekly subject wise period norms for class IX and X, he said that there would be eight periods of English in a week which will be taught by English PGT. In case of non availability of PGT English, the teaching workload can be assigned to any PGT of Social Studies group that is economics, geography, political science, history, psychology and sociology. Similarly, there would be eight periods of Mathematics in a week which will be taught by PGT Mathematics. In case of non availability of such PGT, the teaching workload can be assigned to PGT Physics.
He said that weekly period of science would be six to be taken by PGT physics, chemistry and biology whereas six weekly periods of Hindi would be taught by PGT Hindi. In case of non availability of PGT Hindi, the teaching workload can be assigned to PGT Sanskrit. He said that weekly periods of social studies would be five to be taught by PGT economics, geography, political science, history, psychology and sociology.
There would be five periods of Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu, Drawing, Music, Home Science and Physical Education in a week which would be taught by PGT Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu, Fine Arts, Music, Home Science and Physical Education or DPE (BPED) Master Cadre. In case of non availability of PGT Physical Education, the teaching workload can be assigned to DPE.Similarly, there would be six periods of Information Technology in a week, which would be taken by PGT Computer Science. Apart from this, four periods in a week would be for EDUSAT or Library or Sports or Life Skill or Sharm Dan or Yoga or TP or other CCA.
Giving details of weekly subject wise period norms for classes XI and XII, he said that all subjects of each stream of arts, commerce, medical and non medical would have 48 periods. He said that priority of teaching classes IX and X would be with PGT cadre but in case of non availability of PGTs, the work can be assigned to the TGTs provided that TGT has less workload assigned than the stipulated workload.
