After the function, the same teacher called him to his room and asked why did he laugh. Mr Manohar Lal said that he replied saying that how a village lad can achieve so much as was said in his speech. But the teacher quoted examples of big personalities who had risen despite being born in poor families. The teacher told him that the then Prime Minister Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri hailed from a poor family and at times he would tie his books and clothes to his head so as to swim across a river to reach his school. During rains, he used to leave his books in the school.
Mr Manohar Lal said the other example which the teacher gave was of Abrahim Lincoln who also hailed from a poor family and used to study under street light. The teacher told him that it these poor children can be Prime Minister and President of a country, why can’t a village lad do so.
