This was informed by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Mr. Ram Niwas, who was issuing directions to officers after inspecting mandis in Kurukshetra, Pipli and Shahabad, today.
Mr. Ram Niwas interacted with farmers and traders about purchase, lifting and payment, and problem being faced in mandis. On the basis of the feedback, it was found that farmers are getting better prices for their produce and payment was being made on time. Being peak season, some problems are being faced in lifting of paddy. Therefore, officers of procurement agencies have been directed to immediately accelerate the pace of lifting, he added.
He said that as compared to last year, eight to ten per cent more paddy has arrived in mandis this year. About 13,17,963 quintals of paddy had so far arrived in Thanesar mandi whereas only 12,41,553 quintals of paddy had arrived during corresponding period last year. He said that about 4,92,102 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in district Kurukshetra. In-spite of 17 per cent moisture in paddy, farmers are getting more than the prescribed price for their produce.
The ACS said that all mandis should have basic facilities such as drinking water and toilets for farmers. There is no shortage of gunny bags in mandis and each grain of farmers’ produce would be procured. Any irregularity by officers in purchasing produce of farmers would be dealt with strictly, he added.
