Vice President lauds rapid strides made by Haryana

CHANDIGARH, OCT 31
The Vice-President of India, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, today lauded the rapid strides made by Haryana, the sacred land of Upanishads and Bhagvad Gita, in various fields, especially agriculture, sports and information technology.
            “It is no mean achievement for a state having mere 1.5 per cent of the country's population producing 15 per cent of total foodgrains in the country”, he said while speaking at the closing ceremony of the year-long Swarna Jayanti celebrations at Mahabir Stadium, in Hisar today.
            Mr Naidu hailed Haryana's achievement in making all rural and urban areas of the state open defecation-free and expressed the hope that the state government and the people of the state would make the national Swachhta Abhiyan a part of their lives.
      Mr Naidu had a special word of praise for the womenfolk of the state who had defied the odds to achieve remarkable success in various fields, especially sports.
       Exhorting the people to cherish, imbibe and protect the rich 'sanskriti' of the country and the concept of Bharatiyata, he expressed his happiness that Gita Jayanti celebrations in Kurukshetra this year and an international seminar on Gita to be hosted by Kurukshetra University, would be inaugurated by the President of India on November 25.
          He said that it is a matter of pride that the central government has selected two districts of Haryana namely Karnal and Faridabad under the smart city scheme. Apart from this, the State Government is also developing Gurugram as smart city from its own resources.  He hoped that the development of these cities under the smart city scheme would inspire other districts also to take benefit of this scheme. He said that the IT related export of Haryana has played a significant role in developing the country as a super power in the field of Information Technology. 
          He also expressed happiness over the increasing use of IT in Panchayats as this would help in ensuring transparency in speedy implementation of various government schemes. He hoped that the State Government would launch a comprehensive campaign to encourage the farmers to adopt the facility of e-marketing in their interest.
    Earlier, Vice President of India, Mr M. Vankaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal released two books entitled Haryana Police Journal and Haryana – A Sporting Power House.        
          The event showcased some amazing cultural performances by folk artistes. Sonu Nigam‘s performance turned out to be a crowd puller. The youngsters contributed as chorus while the singing sensation of India rendered one melody after another. Beginning from Mera Rang De Basanti Chola and ending with Kal Ho Na Ho, the atmosphere in Mahabir Stadium turned electric. 
          The highlight of the show was Bike Stunt Act performed by Haryana Police Commandos. One after another, the courageous men showed their prowess on bike, driving hands-free or doing Headstand on the bike while driving. Even Randeep Hooda, the Master of the Ceremony also took a round of the stadium holding National Flag seared on a bike driven by a Commando.
    Among those present on the occasion included Education Minister, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, Urban Local Bodies Minister, Mrs Kavita Jain, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar, Minister of State for Food and Supplies, Mr Karan Dev Kamboj, Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Dr Banwari Lal, Minister of State for Cooperation, Mr Manish Kumar Grover, MP Rajya Sabha, Mr Subhash Chandra, MLAs namely Mr Kamal Gupta, Mr Subhash Barala, Mrs Seema Trikha, Mr Mahipal  Dhanda, Chairperson of Scheduled Castes Finance Development Corporation, Mrs Sunita Duggal, Chief Secretary, Mr D.S.  Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Dr K.K. Khandelwal, renowned Bollywood actor, Mr Randeep Hooda and renowned  singer, Mr Sonu Nigam and other senior officers of the State Government and District Administration.
