CHANDIGARH,
JULY 24
A new scheme of immunization, known as “Tikakaran Express”
will be implemented in three districts of Haryana namely Mewat, Palwal
and Faridabad to provide services of immunization at the door-step of
the people in these districts. This new scheme of the Haryana
Government has been approved by the Central Government to further
strengthen routine immunization in these districts.
This was disclosed by Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal
Secretary, Health, Mrs Navraj Sandhu while addressing a two day review
meeting of Civil Surgeons which concluded today.
She
said that the scheme would also ensure 100 per cent coverage for
immunization in slums, construction sites and areas of bricklins in
these districts. Under this scheme, vans especially equipped with
facilities for immunization and necessary staff would be taken to the
villages for immunization in the day and would return by the same
evening after having covered all available children between the age of
zero to five years in the area.
She
reiterated the commitment of the State Government to reduce Maternal
Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). She said that the
new scheme would prove a step forward in the efforts being made to
reduce MMR and IMR.
The
Health Department is committed to reduce MMR from 153 per lakh pregnant
women to 94 by the year 2015 and the IMR from 48 per thousand live
births to 32 during the same period.
She
exhorted them to take care of micro issues to have good management. The
health institutions paying sincere attention to micro issues were
performing better in terms of health indicators. She asked the Civil
Surgeons to send the demand for infrastructure needs to the Headquarters
so that budget for this purpose could be allocated by the Government.
Mrs
Sandhu said that 180 new doctors would soon join their jobs. These
doctors are to be posted at Civil Hospitals for orientation before
sending them to Primary Health Centres (PHCs). New norms for the
recruitment of paramedical staff are being developed. The analysed data
of the Supportive Supervision System exercise conducted at about 170
PHCs in the State will be used as a tool to further improve
infrastructure and service delivery at grass root level, she added.
Dr Narveer Singh, Director General Health Services said that there is a
need to upgrade laboratory facilities in the medical facilities. A
committee to revise the existing laboratory facilities and suggest
improvements was constituted, he added.
Others present in the meeting included Mission Director, National Rural
Health Mission (NRHM), Director General Health Services, Director NRHM,
