by Haryananewswire (Balbir)
CHANDIGARH, JULY 21
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has said that the country’s second National Institute of Design (NID), being set up in Kurukshetra, will prove to be a milestone in the development of Haryana in general, and the holy city in particular.
He was addressing a large number of people who had come here from
Kurukshetra to express their gratitude to him for announcing the decision to set up NID in Kurukshetra.
The first instalment of Rs 135 crore has already been released for development of the institute which would provide education in design,
research, training and services for social and human values. It will
help  promote design awareness and is application for raising the
standard of  India-made products and systems to improve employment and
earning opportunities.
The Chief Minister said that it would be the second such national institute after Ahmadabad in the country where education and research work would be done in the field of designing. Designs of various goods, at NID, would be adopted by different countries.
Kurukshetra which is now known as holy land at the international
level will now also be recognized for its NID.
While thanking the UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, the
Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and the Union Commerce and
Industry Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, for giving this prestigious
institute to Haryana, the Chief Minister said that during the regime
of the present government, various steps had been taken for overall
development of Kurukshetra. Besides others, a Hotel Management
Institute and a planetarium have also been set up in Kurukshetra and
the library of Kurukshetra University, one of its kind in the country,
has been upgraded.
Referring to Kurukshetra as the ‘karma bhoomi’, Mr. Hooda
said that Kurukshetra is a place of religious significance where Lord
Krishna gave the message of Gita. Efforts are being made to develop
Kurukshetra as a global standard tourist destination. A replica of
Tirupati Temple is also being set up and land for the purpose has
already been provided by the state government. The Tirupati Trust has
sanctioned over Rs 100 crore for this temple.
Amidst thunderous applause, Mr. Hooda said that being a son
of a farmer, he was well aware of the problems faced by the farming
community. The state government has taken a number of pro-farmer
decisions. Now, the government has come up with a unique pro-farmer
Land Pooling Scheme, to ensure participation of all stakeholders in
planned development of residential and industrial infrastructure. Mr
Hooda said that the scheme provided an option to landowner-farmers to
get ‘developed land’ in return for their acquired land.
The ‘Land Pooling Scheme’ will pave the way for a landowner
to get a 1,000-sq-yard residential plot, and one commercial plot of
100 sq. yards for every one acre of land acquired by the Government
for the development of residential sectors by HUDA.
Under the scheme, where land would be acquired by the Haryana State
Industrial and Infrastructure Development (HSIIDC), the landowner
farmer would have the option to get developed land measuring 1200 sq.
yards, for every one acre of land acquired. The landowner would be
free to use the developed land the way he wants or sell it in the open
market. This scheme would be implemented in the entire country, hoped Mr.  Hooda.
The Finance Minister, Mr. Harmohinder Singh Chattha, MLA Mr. Anil
Dhantori, Political Advisor to Chief Minister Prof. Virender Singh,
Principal OSD to Chief Minister Mr. M.S. Chopra, OSD to Chief Minister
former Member of Parliament Mrs. Kailasho Saini, former MLA Mr. Ramesh
Gupta, Mr. Banta Ram, District Congress President Mr. Jai Bhagwan
Sharma and other prominent persons were also present on this occasion.
