Government to set up CCU units in three more districts

The Haryana Government is planning to set up Cardiac Care Units (CCU) in three more districts of the State, which are being covered under National Non-Communicable Disease Programme of the Central Government. These districts are Kurukshetra, Ambala and Yamunanagar, whereas one such unit has already been set up in Mewat.

          Stating this at the 8^th Asian Interventional Cardiology Conference in Gurgaon today, Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda said under this programme, screening of citizens is done for hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. “However, in order to meet the ever increasing load of patients suffering from heart diseases, we need to set up more CCUs. For this, we need more cardiologists and if they are not available, we will have to develop appropriate skills of our doctors to do not only successful screening, but also provide treatment”, added Mr Hooda.

          Mr Hooda said that heart ailments have close connection with our life style. There are several factors leading to lifestyle related diseases like lack of physical activity, bad food habits and disturbed biological cycle. He said that to combat these diseases, there was a need to promote healthy life style and he felt that cardiac professionals and doctors could contribute a lot in guiding the people for changing their lifestyle and improving health standards. Mr Hooda also mentioned about his discussion with Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, for preparing a  model for spreading awareness among the rural people for prevention of heart diseases.

Mr Hooda said that health being a holistic concept, there was a need to look health issues in an integral manner. Haryana government was committed to provide quality health care to its people, for which adequate budget had been provided. But the real challenge was to provide quality healthcare at affordable rates. He said that he was sure, the health professionals would be able to address this challenge, he added.

          Mr Hooda said that our country was emerging as a major health tourism destination. A large pool of qualified professionals and latest medical techniques were now available in India. Health institutions with high standards had also come up in Haryana, especially in the National Capital Region and Gurgaon in particular, which were contributing to make the State a preferred destination for specialized healthcare. These institutions were catering not only to the needs of the people of Haryana but also of neighboring states and even the patients from other countries.

          Mr Hooda expressed confidence that the deliberations of this conference would benefit the society at large and health professionals in particular.

          Dr Trehan said that a number of good health institutions have come up in Haryana and new techniques are being used in the heart care sector. But there is need to spread awareness among the people about heart diseases so that they can be prevented or otherwise medically treated.

Sindhu, DCP (west) SP Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Parveen Garg, Dr Praveen Chandra, Dr Ashok Seth  and many other renowned cardiologists and medical practitioners.
