Need to further improve teachers’ education: Hooda

In Haryana, a separate teacher education cadre for District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will be constituted.
          A decision to this effect was taken in a review meeting of Education Department held under the Chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
          Mr. Hooda said that State Government has taken several steps to improve the quality of education in the State and there is a need to further improve teachers’ education so that better education could be provided in schools. He said that new DIET centres would be set up in Mewat, Palwal, Jhajjar and Fatehabad districts and Block Institutes of Education and Training would be set up in Ambala, Sirsa and Ratia of Fatehabad.
          It was informed in the meeting that at present there were 17 DIET and two Government Elementary Teachers Training Institutes (GETTI) functional including State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT)   in the State in which cadre of lecturers, senior lecturers, Principal, Deputy Director, Joint Director and School Education Department is same. Some of them do not qualify the eligibility criteria set by National Council for Teacher Education. As a need to constitute independent cadre for SCERT, DIET and GETTI was felt, it was approved in the meeting.
          Haryana Education Minister, Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. Chhatar Singh, Principal OSD to Chief Minister, Mr. M.S. Chopra, Deputy Principal Secretary, Mr R. S. Doon, Principal Secretary, Finance Department Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Mrs. Surina Rajan, Director, Secondary Education Department, Mr. Pankaj Yadav and Director-cum-Joint Secretary, Elementary Education, Mr. Abhe Singh Yadav were also present in the meeting.
