CHANDIGARH, JULY 17
An 18-member foreign delegation
today visited village Munak in district Karnal and evaluated the implementation
of literacy mission at village level. The delegation is to take part in an
international conference to be organized by National Literacy Mission Authority
of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in New Delhi from July 18
to 20. The aim of this visit is evaluation of literacy mission at village level
in the State. The members of delegation evaluated information regarding the
framework of literacy mission being run in village Munak since the year 2010
and information about the people who were motivated by facilitators.
The members of the delegation said that this initiative of the State
Government to make people literate is commendable and they would also try to
implement this mission in their respective countries.
Additional
Director, Haryana Secondary Education, Ms. Sumedha Kataria apprised the
delegation that the Mission is being run by the State Government to educate
illiterate people above 15 years of age. Under this, over 4000 classes were
being run in about 2962 villages of 10 districts. At present, as many as 5444
facilitators were working in the entire State. There is a considerable increase
in literacy rate in the State after implementation of this mission, she added.
She said
that under this mission, women were coming forward in a large number in order
to become literate. Inspired by this mission, these women were contributing in
welfare of their families by taking active part in MGNREGA, Swaran Gram
Swarozgar Yojana, rural development, health services and agricultural
activities.
The
delegation was informed that under ‘Sakshar Bharat Karyakaram’, a committee of
Panch-Sarpanches was constituted at village level which appointed a facilitator
in the village. These facilitators were provided with proper training of
literacy Mission. Facilities like chairs, mat and study material
are being provided to people who are getting education under this literacy
mission in villages where it is being implemented. The facilitators are being
provided with an honorarium of Rs 2000.
