As a tribute to the great mathematician
Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in
India (SPSTI) has decided to hold a Quiz in Mathematics for school students in
Union Territory Chandigarh on August 24 at Bhavan Vidyalaya, in Sector, 27 here.
SPSTI
general secretary Prof. Keya Dharamvir said that the event has been sponsored
by the UT's Department of Science and Technology.
Students
of Classes IX, X and XI of the schools of Union Territory of Chandigarh are
eligible to participate. All schools of Chandigarh have been requested to send
nominations of two teams, each team comprising two students.
The
quiz would be preceded by a lecture on ‘Why Study Mathematics?’ by a
distinguished mathematician, Professor I. B. S. Passi, Professor Emeritus, Panjab
University and Professor, IISER, Mohali.
A
renowned mathematician, Professor R. P. Bambah, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab
University would be the chief guest and give away the prizes. Ms. Rajnee
Bhalla, Associate Professor, Mathematics, Government College, Panchkula is
coordinator of the programme.
