The Jeonju province of South Korea has evinced interest
in setting up carbon fiber and composites industry in Haryana. A delegation frm
Jeonju called on the Haryana Chief Minister,
Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, in New Delhi today to seek co-operation in setting up the unit.

The delegation included Mr Ha-Jin Song, Mayor of Jeonju
City, Capital of North Jeolla, a province of South Korea, and Mr Lee Myeong Yeon,
Chairman of Jeonju City Council. Mr Hooda has assured all cooperation in
setting up the unit, and favoured consultation among industrialists from both
sides to explore more areas of co-operartion.
Mr Song said that Jeonju was leading in Carbon Fiber Industry and the purpose of the visit was to discuss various ways of entering into partnership in the field of automobile and composite industry.
Like Haryana, Jeonju too was earlier an agricultural state, but now it is leading in industry. Korea and India are cooperating in a number of fields. Many Indian companies are there in Korea. Tata Motors has
already acquired Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company.
Welcoming Mr Ha-Jin Song and other members of the delegation, Mr Hooda said that he had visited Korea three times. South Korea and Haryana have many similarities. From agrarian states, both have developed into leading industrial states.
Haryana is a sports power house, having won a number of medals in the international events. Korea too also has good players. Both countries are cooperating with each other. A number of Korean companies,
including Posco, Standard Diagnostics etc, have set up shops in Haryana.
Mr Hooda assured the delegation all cooperation from the Haryana Government in setting up the unit and asked Mr Song to spell out their requirements. He also suggested that industrialists from both sides
should meet to explore possible areas of cooperation and nominated Mr Tarun Bajaj, Managing Director of HSIIDC, as nodal officer for this purpose.
Mr Lee Myeong Yeon said that cooperation between Jeonju and Haryana would be for mutual benefit and “I am sure Haryana will be proud to have agreement with the Government of Jeonju.” Mr Song invited to Mr Hooda to visit Jeonju along with a delegation of officers and industrialists.
Mr Song said that they want to enhance cooperation in trade and industry and in the field of carbon fiber and composites, in which they have expertise.
At the outset, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, Haryana, Mr Y.S. Malik, said that Haryana was one of the leading states of the country. In per capita income, per capita investment, per capita plan
budget and resource mobilization, Haryana is ahead of other states.
Japan and Korea have already invested in Haryana.
A presentation from the Korean side was made on this occasion about the tradition, culture and industrial development of Jeonju. The Principal Secretary to Haryana CM, Mr S.S. Dhillon, MD of HSIIDC, Mr Tarun Bajaj, Principal Resident Commissioner, Mr P.K. Mahapatra, and a number of other senior officers were present on this occasion.
