Ram University of Science and Technology, Sonipat has decided to start two
specialized courses of Post-graduate Diploma in Forensic Biotechnology and
M.Tech. in Food Technology in the Department of Biotechnology.
While stating this today, a spokesman of the University
said that for a grant of Rs 1.50 crore has been sanctioned to the
Department of Biotechnology of this university to run these two new courses.
He said that for the course of Post-graduate
Diploma in Forensic Biotechnology sanctioned by the UGC, a total grant of Rs.
60 lakh and two posts of faculty members have been sanctioned .
This project will work for five years. This course is a specialized
course for the post graduate students for training them in the area of
Molecular Biology and DNA exploration leading to the study of crime and
other forensic aspects.
He said that the other course of M.Tech.
in Food Technology is a very demanding and the students
specializing in this area would be trained in various aspects of food science
and technology. Keeping in view the expansion of food industry in and around
Sonepat, the relevance of this subject becomes more important. The Department
of industries, Government of Haryana has, under the scheme of
infrastructural development of the Central Government, sanctioned Rs. 75 lakh
to develop different laboratories for this course. Prof. J.S Rana,
Chairman Department of Biotechnology would be coordinator for these two
programmes. While describing the provisions under these two courses he said
that both the courses are very important and innovative in nature. The students
doing these courses would be trained in various practical aspects of the
subjects and would be better employable.
