The Haryana
Government is negotiating with the governments of Argentina and Brazil to
construct godowns in rural areas of the State under a Silo Project
for storage of foodgrains and an agreement in this regard is likely
to be signed shortly.
This
was stated by Haryana Minister of State for Agriculture, Mr.
Sukhbir Kataria in Sirsa.
The Minister said
that in this regard he has already visited both the countries. He said
that Haryana is a leading state in foodgrains production and it is number one
in the country in terms of productivity of wheat. He said that under
such godowns, the foodgrains could be stored safely without any impact of
adverse climatic conditions like very low or very high temperature and humidity.
Mr.
Kataria said that after signing of the agreement with Argentina and Brazil,
special concessions would be given to the farmers for setting up of such
godowns which would also provide employment to the youth. He said that
during the current season about 60 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has reached
the mandis of the state and adequate arrangements have been made
for its storage.
While
urging the farmers to follow rotation farming and horticulturehe said that the
state government has started various new schemes to encourage the farmers
towards horticulture.
