CHANDIGARH, JUNE 17
Haryana has recorded a rainfall of 15.51 and 18.06
centimeters from 8 a.m. on June 15 to 8 a.m. June 16 and from 8 a.m. on June 16 to 8 a.m. today respectively. This
much of rainfall in two days has broken all previous records of the rainfall
received in the State during the corresponding period of June in monsoon season
during last 11 years.
Yamunanagar
district has received a maximum of 3.90 centimeters of rainfall in the state
during these two days from 8 a.m. on June 15 to 8 a.m. on June 16, which was increased to 10.08
centimeters from 8 a.m. on June 16 to 8 a.m. on June 17.

Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster
Management, Mr Krishna Mohan said that in river Yamuna, eight lakh cusecs of
water was flowing through Hathni Kund Barrage in Yamunanagar today morning as
against 4.5 lakh cusecs yesterday. All the 52 residents of village Lapra in
district Yamunanagar, who were stranded over an island in the river Yamuna were
got evacuated today morning by the State Government. The Indian Army at Ambala
was also kept in readiness to meet any eventuality.
He said that the
State Government has taken effective steps to meet any eventuality and efforts
would be made to ensure that there is no loss of life and property due to
floods. The leave of all the Revenue officers has been cancelled and they have
been called back to constantly tour the flood prone areas. A sum of Rs 94.50
lakh has been released to the district administration, who already have
sufficient number of boats and other necessary equipment to launch rescue and
relief operations. The Deputy Commissioners have been assured that there would
be no dearth of funds, but they must prevent any loss of life and property and
see for themselves that the people are not put to any hardship.
For avoiding
situation of flooding in the urban areas, department of Public Health
Engineering has already been provided a sum of Rs. 50 lakh for dewatering
purposes. Apart from this, some cities in Haryana also have super sucker
machines to avoid drainage congestion situations.
He said that it
was due to the early monsoon that the river Yamuna got flooded, but the district
administration and the State Government were fully geared up to meet such
situations. The district administrations of Karnal, Panipat and Sonepat were
informed in advance about the massive flow in river Yamuna. Besides this, all
the Deputy Commissioners in the state have already been directed to arrange
Thikri pahras and keep the contact telephone numbers of respectable
persons, patwaris, kanungos, numberdars,Chowkidars and sarpanches in their
districts. All the district officers and officials including Patwaries and Gram
Sachivs dealing with flood situation have also been directed to remain at their
respective headquarters.
To
strengthen state’s own disaster response capacity, one Battalion of Indian
Reserve Battalion, Bhondsi has also been trained and equipped to respond to any
eventuality in the state.
He said that the
Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda is personally monitoring the
operations and his directions are being followed in letter and spirit. He said
that a Flood Control Room has been set up in the office of Financial
Commissioner, Revenue at the State Headquarters here, as well as at every
district headquarters, and anybody can inform about floods at phone number

monitoring the situation, a constant vigil is being maintained through this
Flood Control Room and directions are being issued to the concerned staff.
