Haryana recommends names for National Child Award

The Haryana Government has recommended to the Central Government the names of two girls, an institution and an individual for National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, National Award for Child Welfare and Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award respectively.
          A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of State Level Screening Committee held under the chairmanship of Haryana Women and Child Development Minister, Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal here today.
          Those who have been recommended included Ms. Sarita, a resident of Bhiwani and Ms. Harman, a resident of Panipat for National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement. An institution named SOS Children Village, Faridabad has been recommended for National Award for Child Welfare and Mr. Ved Prakash, a resident of Narnaul has been recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award.
          Mrs. Bhukkal said that the main objective of National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement is to give recognition to children with exceptional abilities and who have achieved outstanding status in various fields including academics, arts, culture and sports. She said that children within the age of 4 to 15 years were eligible for the award. In all, a gold medal and 35 silver medals would be given away.
       A cash prize of Rs 20,000 would also be given to person getting gold medal and a cash prize Rs. 10,000 each would be given to those getting silver medal along with citation and certificate.
      Similarly, under the Award for Child Welfare each year five institutions and three individuals are honoured with this award. Under this award, cash prize of Rs. three lakh for each institution and of Rs. one lakh for each individual would be given away along with a certificate. Under the Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award, a cash prize of Rs. one lakh, a silver plaque and a citation would be given.
          On this occasion, Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Mr. P. Raghavendra Rao, Principal Secretary, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department, Mr. R.R. Jowel, Director General, Women and Child Development Department, Mrs. Sumita Misra, Director General, Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal and Additional Director, Women and Child Development Department, Mrs. Shashi Doon were also present.
