CHANDIGARH, DEC 22
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, inaugurated “Akshay
Urja Bhawan” constructed at a cost of Rs. 11 crore in Sector-17,
Panchkula near here today. The building demonstrates energy efficient
building design and green building concepts. The Chief Minister went around the
building to see for himself its various features.
This building will house the offices of the Renewable Energy Department
and Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA). The building
has been constructed to demonstrate energy efficient building design and green
building concepts and has been constructed in compliance with the Energy
Conservation Building Codes (ECBC) and with 5 Star rating
of Green Rating for Integrated Habitat
Assessment (GRIHA) rating system for Green buildings of Government of
India.
The building has been constructed on solar passive design techniques having
Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system of 42.5 KW capacity,
Solar Chimney, mist cooling, cavity walls, fly ash based bricks, solar water
heating system, water recycling and energy efficient lighting. As about
35 per cent of the heat in a building is ingressed from the roof, the
roof of the building has been covered with thermotech tiles which avoid
transmission of heat into the building. All the windows in the building are
oriented in the South direction with double glazed windows to ensure maximum
light during day time and minimum transmission of thermal load into the building.
The energy consumption in this building is estimated
to be about 15 kWhr/m2/year in comparison to the consumption of about 200
kWhr/m2/year in an existing air conditioned building. No municipal water supply
is required after the first monsoon. The building cost includes the cost
of renewable energy devices installed in the building. The building has been
constructed by the Haryana Police Housing Corporation. The building also
has an exhibition area where renewable energy and energy efficient devices will
be displayed and advisory services would be provided. The building will have
all futurist office amenities.
